Vallecito is located in a secluded mountain valley on the shores of one of Colorado's largest and most beautiful lakes. Winter, spring, summer or fall, Vallecito offers beauty and activities for each season. It is surrounded by the San Juan National Forest and near the Weminuche Wilderness.

Fishing at Vallecito Lake has been considered some of the best in Colorado. For some really great pictures visit Wit's End. There are two full service marinas; The Anglers Warf and Mountain Marina.

There are motels, cabins, resorts, dude and guest ranches, RV parks and campgrounds to make your stay comfortable. A variety of restaurants and lounges offer good food and relaxing atmospheres.

After finding the perfect accomodation it's time to explore the mountains. There are three trailheads from Vallecito . The Vallecito campground trail follows the creek and offers spectacular views (Vallecito Creek trail slide show). The Pine River tailhead follows the Los PInos River and is intersected by the trail to Emerald Lake. Middle Mountain Road goes to Tuckerville where the scenery is well worth the drive. Cave Basin Trail begins at the 10 mile marker and accesses the Weminuche Wilderness, climbs through alpine valleys and also leads to Emerald Lake.

Riding horseback is a great way to access the backcountry and there are outfitters ready to make your trip memorable: Big Corral Riding Stable offer day and overnight rides. Wits End Guest Ranch offers rides to their guests. Elk Point Lodge offers daily rides and pack trips. Winter is beautiful at Vallecito. Ice-fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing (x-cntry skiing slide show) on the well-groomed trails are popular activities. Or sit by the fire and enjoy the spectacular views.
